Abstract
-
This essay introduces and explores some recent scholars’ writings on the field of “Exchange between Confucianism and Christianity”. The leading scholars under study from both within and outside China, include Nicolas Standaert, Paul Rule, Huang Yilong, Zhang Xianqing, Li Tiangang, Wang Xiaochao and Xu Haisong. This list is not comprehensive but only includes those whose works are readily accessible and illustrative. Not
only are their works succinctly summarized, but their significance is also pinpointed. This paper tries to show that some of the scholars suggest the best way to approach this field and also reflect upon the pros and cons of other approaches. Finally, some recent trends are detected and a ‘post-modern’ approach is presented.
